How we came to make 100% British Ketchup - a tomato ketchup with only British grown ingredients!

A lot of people believe Condimaniac started with British Ketchup - but that would be wrong. We've been a business since 2019. Our whole 'thing' is that we make weird condiments; stuff you cannot just find in any old supermarket. 

When we saw online in 2024 that Jeremy Clarkson set out to only serve 100% British produce at his pub and wasn't able to get a ketchup, our interest was piqued. Initially we did nothing as we were sure a company much bigger than us would step forward and sort it. How hard could it be? Tomatoes grow here, sugar beet grows here... the rest can't be so difficult? 

We forgot about it until early 2025 when we saw yet another TikTok pointing out that The Farmer's Dog still wasn't serving ketchup simply because there wasn't one that's all British. Right we thought, that's it, we are giving this a go. 

We had no experience sourcing British produce. We're founded by Jen from Germany and Kier from Suffolk. We make all sorts of products - inspired by cuisines all over the world and often using imported and hard-to-get ingredients. 

We documented everything (we still are) in a now 30+ part TikTok series. All the struggles, wins and losses. Showing the issues with a totally homegrown supply chain & the need for global trade. At the same time also how sometimes it can be easy to support the local economy.

We did actually manage to be stocked in the Farm Shop at the Farmer's Dog for a while, coming full circle. 

At the time of writing, we have stepped away from that and we've concluded the last batch of Condimaniac 100% British Ketchup in this form. But we already have plans for next year to reimagine the product. Still 100% British, but different.
