Authentic seitan flavoured with an amazing blend of spices inspired by our Smokey Dragon hot sauce and it only has 3 ingredients! (If you don't include water that is...)
Ingredients
-
1200g All purpose flour
-
750ml water
-
1L vegan broth (or enough to just cover the seitan in your pan)
-
15g Smokey Dragon rub (or more to taste)
Directions
Chuck the flower and water into a large bowl and mix until it combines
Take the dough and place onto a floured counter top. Kneed thoroughly for 15 minutes until the ball is smooth and springy.
Allow the ball to rest for 1-2 hours
Once rested cover the dough ball in fresh cold water and begin to kneed out the starch. Whenever the water gets really cloudy drain it and replace with fresh water.
Repeat the process 4/5 times until the water is only slightly cloudy when kneeded. Squeeze out excess water and let the seitan drain for 20mins or so.
Place the seitan ball in a bowl and add in the Smokey Dragon rub. Work it in gently.
Take your now seasoned ball, stretch out and then twist and tuck to create strands and fibres within the protein.
To cook, place some oil in a frying pan on a medium heat. Fry the seitan for 3/4 minutes each side until golden brown.
Once browned place the stock into the hot pan and cover with a lid. simmer for 20 minutes or so or until the water has evaporated.
Life out the seitan and chuck into a burger or something else delicious. It's extra great with our All The Ranch dressing.
